First date – XB and Grass

We brought the 2 birds out for a little date! Like humans, parrotlets need time to get acquainted and they need to grow to like each other. We would score it 3/10, mainly because XB was being overly aggressive towards Grass. It’s going to take some time but we’ll get there! :)

It wasn’t easy getting a shot of both of them together, hopefully it gets better, so stay tuned! We’ll be back with new shots this week! :)

Meanwhile, as XB was trying her best to get a bite of Grass, Grass couldn’t stop trying to run towards XB. A very bad combination. Our fingers ended up as chew toys many times, when we try to block a bite from XB meant for Grass. But like all good things, we shall be patient!

Green Parrotlet – Grass!

It brings us great joy to feature the latest addition to the family, introducing – Grass! He is the future-husband-to-be for XB! To prevent in-breeding, for every new baby we have, we will get him/her a companion from an external source to ensure the gene pool stays varied.

He is about 2.5mths old and very camera shy. Not fully hand-tame so it will take us a while to get him accustomed to us. XB has been doing a fantastic job in demonstrating and easing him into the household. Good thing that parrotlets are fast learners! (and good at mimicking others!)

As we’ll be travelling about 2 weeks from now, the lack of interaction during the time we’re away may result in him regressing back to being anti-social. Therefore, we’re giving him daily human-bird socialising lessons. It’s been working out pretty well so far!

It’s going to be quite a journey ahead, esp with XB being extremely violent and physically aggressive towards Grass (and it doesn’t help that XB already considers herself married to E. She did a courtship ritual at E today, oh dear!).

More pictures coming up featuring the soon-to-be husband-and-wife XB and Grass together!
